About

SAMUEL REID HENSON

Hello!

My name is Sam Henson.

I am a 21 year old actor from Chicago, Illinois.

When I am not performing you can find me experimenting with makeup, teaching myself how to play something new on the piano, ukulele, guitar, or singing to my roommate while she cooks.

I like long walks on the beach, spicy margaritas, jazzy alternative funk pop music, and ocean documentaries.

I am the youngest of three. My parents currently live in Colorado, where I enjoy skiing in the wintertime. I love walking my two dogs, Luna and Koa, through the mountains. Luna loves frisbee.

I spent a majority of my life hiding from myself. I didn’t come out of the closet until I was in college. I also didn’t know that I NEEDED to be a performer. I always enjoyed the stage. The lights. The applause. I always danced. I was on two separate competition dance teams growing up. I was particularly inclined at hip-hop. I was the flipper in my company. I spent a lot of my time nourishing my gymnastics and acrobatic skills. I was also apart of a playback theatre troop in high school. That is where I truly saw the impact of performance. Allowing people to experience or relive their own stories in a devised performance was invigorating. With all of this love for the arts oozing out of every part of me, you would assume I would want to go to school for performance? Wrong. I, like many individuals, questioned my ability and drive for performing. Until I got to school and watched my peers perform, I did not realize how badly I wanted it. I would watch my friends shows and although I was happy for them, there was this lingering feeling of envy. I wanted to be up on that stage. Every time I see a show, whether it is community theatre or Broadway, I am completely encapsulated by connection. The ability to impact people through song or dance or prose is what I strive to do.

I want to live a beautiful life. Life is about finding good people to do the hard things with. In a time like today, artists are needed more than ever. Connection is key, and theatre connects us all. Sitting in a room full of strangers all feeling the same thing. That’s what it’s all about. And I am committed to fostering an environment that welcomes emotionally integrity and vulnerability. Harnessing the ability to relate, connect, and work to understand each other.

I’ve got tons of good ideas, I will be the funniest person in your writing room, and I know that I will add value and promise to whatever room I walk into.

I look forward to working with you. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better.
